Tips for Treating Migraines

You don’t really have to treat migraines with medication or frequent visits to the doctor. If you really make a conscious effort to make your life better, there are certain ways that you can manage this situation. It is not easily done, but where there is a will there is a way! Here are few tips that should help you find some relief with migraines.

Observe and Understand What Triggers The Migraines

Identify factors that trigger your headaches. Stress, inadequate sleep, depression, noise and environmental pollution, exposure to too much sunlight, too much intake of caffeine, frizzy drinks etc are some of the most common trigger factors for headaches. This is not to say that these factors are solely responsible for migraines. There could be other health issues such as seizures, blood pressure etc that could lead to a bad migraine attack.

Seek A Peaceful Environment

Migraines get worse by the minute, if you don’t get to a peaceful environment fast. As soon as you feel a migraine coming up, go to a dark room, lie down peacefully and put on some calm, soothing music (if music soothes you). Do not think of anything and keep your mind free from all worries. If you can, imagine good times, good things that makes you happy. Try to instigate the happy hormones, instead of bringing out stress hormones.

Try Handling Migraines Through Natural Ways

You don’t have to opt for medical treatment of migraines; instead you can always go holistic. Chinese herbal drinks such as warm green tea, Chinese balm etc have been known to soothe a pounding headache. You can also place an ice pack on your head to soothe the muscles that are causing the headache. Ice will paralyze that area and it would prevent the muscle from throbbing excessively.

Have A Gentle Head Massage

You can ask someone to gently massage your head focusing on the temple area. Head massages always works great to treat a headache and they also enable you to fall asleep, thus making the headache go away gradually.

Change The Way You Think!

This may be an entirely vast topic of discussion that brings in spirituality and psychology. But there is enough proof available to hold this point strong that when you change the way you think, the way you live and somehow make your life better, focus on things that makes you happy, focus on ways to remain positive, then you can actually deal with these neurological diseases effectively. Your body also has certain chemicals and signals that work to produce sense of happiness, love and well being. The art lies in triggering those positive signals and diminishing other negative aspects. Though this may sound quite out of reach to many people, miracles do happen and when science doesn’t really give you the solution, its time you search it in Mother Nature and in yourself too!

A migraine is not solely a brain illness. It has a lot more to do with a person’s lifestyle and his or her approach to life. Combine medications with positive attitude and a few natural treatments and you may have a winning hand over migraines.
